Call for Applications

Dolores Zohrab Liebmann Fund is now accepting applications. UC San Diego is able to nominate three students to apply for this award. Dolores Zohrab Liebmann Fellowships are awarded annually to candidates who are currently enrolled (and remain enrolled) pursuing a graduate degree, have outstanding undergraduate academic records, have demonstrated a need for financial assistance, are citizens of the United States of America, are enrolled in accredited colleges and universities in the United States, and have received a baccalaureate degree. The Fund also supports scholarly publications focusing on Armenian studies and culture and considers independent research or study projects.

Award Details

The 2022-2023 recipient will receive the cost of tuition only (no fees) plus a $18,000 stipend to be allocated towards room, board, living expenses, as well as any income taxes thereon.  

Each Fellow agrees to have his or her name published and identified as a Dolores Zohrab Liebmann Fellow and MUST APPLY FOR A RENEWAL of his or her fellowship by March 30th  of the following year in accordance with the terms in effect at the time the fellowship is awarded.  (No reminder will be sent.) 

Fellowships will be limited to a maximum of three years, may not be deferred and may be canceled at any time if a Fellow engages in misconduct affecting the Fund, breaches any of these rules or provides false information to the Fund either directly or indirectly. 

Eligibility

  • Fellowships are available to students who are currently enrolled in and pursuing a graduate degree at a designated institution of higher learning located in the United States of America.
  • The program of study being pursued by the candidate may include any recognized field of study in the humanities, social sciences, or natural sciences (including law, medicine, engineering, architecture or other formal professional training).   The selection committee has a strong preference for supporting scholarly endeavors.
  • The candidate must have received a baccalaureate degree at the time of application and have an outstanding undergraduate record.
  • The candidate must demonstrate a need for financial assistance
    • If a student is selected as a nominee they will be expected to provide the following documentation:
      • Copy of your Free Application for Federal Student Aid. (FASFA)
      • Financial Aid Information from the University or other applicable source. 
      • Copies of Federal Income Tax Returns for the prior two years (including spouse’s returns, if applicable).  Only submit Tax Return Form – DO NOT send schedules, etc.
  • The candidate must be a citizen of the United States of America.
  • The candidate may be of any national descent or background.

Nomination Materials

  • Letter of nomination from the PI, Chair, or program director
  • Student CV
  • Nominee statement.
    • The statement should be no longer than 2 pages, single-spaced, 11 pt. font, 1-inch margins.  References may be added on a separate page.
      • Please include the following:
        • Career Goals
          • Why are you interested in this program? How will this opportunity further your career goals?
          • Provide a brief summary of the relationship between your graduate-level study and your intended personal and/or professional goals. 
        • Research
          • Small description of research/dissertation, methodology in layman’s terms.
          • Address the broader impacts of your research project in terms of:
            • Impact on your field
            • society as a whole

Nomination Process

  • There is no limit for how many nominations a Graduate Coordinator or Faculty mentor may submit.  A separate form should be submitted for each student.
  • The Graduate Division may submit up to three candidates for consideration.
  • Nominations must be submitted no later than December 13, 2021.

Institutional Nominees

If a student is selected as an institutional nominee will be expected to complete this application packet if selected:

Application Packet

  • Nominators must prepare/upload required materials as one PDF document 
  • Submission materials must be submitted electronically and assembled in the following order :
    • A completed and signed DOLORES ZOHRAB LIEBMANN FUND APPLICATION
    • One copy of your personal vitae or résumé. 
    • Certified copies of all undergraduate and graduate transcripts to date.
    • Copy of graduate exam test scores (if applicable). 
    • A Statement of Purpose up to three pages long (double spaced) which considers the relationship between your graduate level study and your intended personal and/or professional goals. Your Statement of Purpose must include a 10-15 line abstract at the top (included in the three pages) that explains, in LAYMAN’S  terms, the essence of your proposed topic of study or dissertation, the methodology of its treatment and its anticipated impact on your field of study. 
    • Letter of Recommendation from Dean of Graduate School or Department Chair. (OPTIONAL)
    • Letters of Recommendation from at least two professors who have taught or worked closely with you. (REQUIRED)
    • Copy of your Free Application for Federal Student Aid. (FASFA)
    • Financial Aid information from the University or other applicable source. 
    • One copy of your Federal Income Tax Return for the prior two years (including spouse’s returns, if applicable).

If any of the documents above are not applicable, please include a statement in its place in the application packet that explains why the item is not applicable.
